Spring Can Begin. We’ve Got the Topsiders.

April 5th, 2011 by The Barefoot Blogger: Laura Kleinbaum

There are some stars whose style is just so-so.  They are celebrities after all, and so we look up to them style-wise, but it doesn’t make them fashion icons.  For instance, I don’t run and put on cropped leggings and Asics every time I see a picture of Hillary Duff leaving the gym in US Weekly.  Similarly, there are also some celebrities for whom this is true: Every time I see her, I want everything she’s wearing because not only is each individual piece amazing, but she combines them in creative and inspiring ways.  Often I feel this way about Blake Lively.

Topsides have long been on my must-have list for this spring. Seeing Blake in them affirmed my conviction that indeed, I must have them.

Luckily, these versatile boat shoes have just become available at Barefoot Tess. P.S. Blake is a tall girl with (probably) big feet, so I feel especially proud introducing them to the BFT crowd.

All About Steve

January 12th, 2011 by The Barefoot Blogger: Laura Kleinbaum

They’re finally here!

In 1990, Steve Madden was crafting custom shoes in a factory in Brooklyn, asking women exactly what they were looking for and designing to please. Today, the Steve Madden is pretty much a shoe god.  He makes every staple style we could dream of. Behold the staple of all staples, the ballet flat!

These slimming staple ballets will be so incredibly cute and useful that people will say things to you like, “Wow, you never take those off–you’ll be wearing those in your coffin!” And those people will be annoying.Still, you’ll know they’re right. They match everything!

And you know where to find ‘em up to size 14! Barefoot Tess!

Move Over, Short Girls

December 7th, 2010 by The Barefoot Blogger: Laura Kleinbaum

When in comes to celebs (movie stars, rock stars, world leaders) women are always dating and marrying men shorter than them.  Tall = Beautiful, and these men got the memo.  Also, short men are very much into dating all women– it’s a thing.  Additionally, and completely unrelated to celebrities, studies show that marriages where the taller spouse is the wife are way up.  It’s always nice to have a celebrity gossip and a sociology study in the same post, no?

Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Jerry ‘Turtle’ Ferrera

Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman (They’re divorced now, but they were a beautiful couple)

Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupree

Penny Lancaster and Rod Stewart

Salman Rushdie and Padma Lakshmi (They also divorced– clearly, because she’s too hot for him.)

Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy

It’s Party Season!

November 30th, 2010 by The Barefoot Blogger: Laura Kleinbaum

Thanksgiving is over, and despite the fact that we all feel a little bloated and that once-a-year desire to go for a run, it’s the happiest time of the year.  Eggnog, hot mulled cider, and peppermint Schnapps hot chocolate are the only things we’ll be drinking for the next month. And that fruit cake in the red box that people give as gifts to avoid having to keep it in their house when they’ve received it as a gift is the only food we’ll be saying no to. It’s Holiday Party Season!

Winter is cold. Sucks, doesn’t it?  Getting dolled up all pretty in a sparkly frock is a highlight of holiday partying, but our poor little cold legs make it less enjoyable. Life’s not easy and pantie hose are not comfortable.  This is where boots and dresses come in.  Boots paired with a holiday dress are a glam look this season.  The contrast between the harsh and the feminine is both eye catching and intriguing, not to mention it’s a look that favors the tall girls, especially when the boots are flat and the dress is short. Plus you can wear think wool socks under your boots to keep warm…secretly.

Check it out!  All boots are available at Barefoot Tess.

Our Girl, Carolyn Peck, for the New York Times

November 3rd, 2010 by The Barefoot Blogger: Laura Kleinbaum

Check out Carolyn’s travel piece for the New York Times here! My favorite quote: “People also have absolutely no qualms about asking me my shoe size. When I’m in a line, people will stare at my feet and then pop the question. If you care, I wear a size 13.”

In addition to being Barefoot Tess‘s very own super stylish brand ambassador, Carolyn Peck is an ESPN basketball analyst and superstar.

Top Trends for Tall Girls

September 11th, 2010 by The Barefoot Blogger: Laura Kleinbaum

Tall girls rejoice: this season is exploding with trends that will really flatter the tall girls and leave your height-challenged counterparts in the dust.  Following is a list of this season’s hottest trends that are much better suited for someone with long legs. Don’t be surprised when you see your short friends with long faces.

1. Over-the-Knee Socks: You’ll be able to pull them all the way up and still show some nice skin between your skirt and your legs.  This look has a very wide spectrum that ranges from sexy to adorable.  It all depends on what you’re wearing with yours socks.

2. Pleated Trousers: These pants are the very epitome of chic, but no one thinks they’re all that flattering.  They often look silly on short girls, so not only are they intriguingly cool, they’re a nice way to show off your height (and your sense of style.)

3. Lace-up Boots:  They hit only a few inches above the ankle, so on shorter girls they have a cutting-off effect, but tall girls have the leg length to wear them with ease.

4. Long Striped Dresses: No need to explain.

5. Flat Booties. Your short friends might look stumpy, but not you.  They’re great with skinny jeans and dresses alike.

The Feats of Feet

June 11th, 2010 by The Barefoot Intern: Eliza Zweig

Today is a day dedicated to feet and the wonders we can accomplish when we use them.  They take us to one destination to another, they are a medium to show off great shoes, and they can also relocate a ball from the wide-open midfield to the cozy nest of net between two goal posts.

Football is all the rage today (and for the next month).  So with such an emphasis on feet, the bigger the better!  Celebrate the unique capabilities that your feet can achieve and slip on a pair of sneakers to see what your feet can do.   So while the World Cup carries on, what I declare as “Feet Appreciation Month” should ensue as well.  And what better way to celebrate than to crown your prized possessions with the luxury of a new pair of shoes?
