Thanksgiving is over, and despite the fact that we all feel a little bloated and that once-a-year desire to go for a run, it’s the happiest time of the year. Eggnog, hot mulled cider, and peppermint Schnapps hot chocolate are the only things we’ll be drinking for the next month. And that fruit cake in the red box that people give as gifts to avoid having to keep it in their house when they’ve received it as a gift is the only food we’ll be saying no to. It’s Holiday Party Season!
Winter is cold. Sucks, doesn’t it? Getting dolled up all pretty in a sparkly frock is a highlight of holiday partying, but our poor little cold legs make it less enjoyable. Life’s not easy and pantie hose are not comfortable. This is where boots and dresses come in. Boots paired with a holiday dress are a glam look this season. The contrast between the harsh and the feminine is both eye catching and intriguing, not to mention it’s a look that favors the tall girls, especially when the boots are flat and the dress is short. Plus you can wear think wool socks under your boots to keep warm…secretly.
Check it out! All boots are available at Barefoot Tess.

Jennifer Aniston

Jessica Biel

Camilla Belle

Carey Mulligan

Taylor Swift

So as you can see, the black open-toe pump is everywhere. They’re the perfect shoe to pair with your holiday dresses. These also come in silver for a more festive touch. What I love about the black though, is that you can just as easily wear them to a stuffy office holiday party as you can to a glitzy New Years gala. Enjoy looking fab!

Whether she knows it or not, for every woman/girl, there exists a base outfit. Mine used to be jeans and a white t-shirt, but now it’s jeans (cutoffs in the summer) and a striped tank. For others, it’s a little black dress or a pencil skirt and a white blouse. Whoever you are though, one exists for you. The beauty of this outfit is that you can wear it every day and no one will notice. It’s not actually an outfit until you start adding things to it–cardigans, jewelry, boots, and so on and so forth.
I’m not actually advocating wearing the same jeans and tank every day, but everyone is familiar with sleeping too late and having to rush through her morning routine and as a result having too little time to pick out something great to wear, or in extreme cases, wash her hair. The Base Outfit to the rescue.
Below I’ve picked out 4 sets of add-ons to make the base outfit cute. Pointer: a statement shoe will always do wonders for you. All of the shoes pictured are from Barefoot Tess.

Lot’s of us put a lot of thought and time into what we wear each day, which necklace would go best with this sweater, which color tights would go best with that skirt, and so on and so forth. We forget though that we actually wear two outfits each day. We wear the one we plan so diligently and then we wear the outside one. We spend a lot of time getting from place to place, especially those of us who live in walking cities, so why not put time into our outerwear outfits as well?

As the weather is turning, I’m reminded that there’s nothing I love more than snuggling on the couch with loved ones or snacks and watching a movie or six. My ultimate winter Sunday involves lazing around in my sweats and slippers watching a movie marathon. That’s not to say I do it every Sunday–my clothes aren’t going to buy themselves– but yeah, I adore never leaving the house and eating from a bottomless bowl of microwavable popcorn. Often the aesthetic of the movie, not just the costumes, but also the setting etc. inspires an outfit. Every movie has a look and every look has a corresponding shoe.

*Please pardon the title of this post. I know it’s lame, but also I couldn’t resist.

Winter’s on it’s way and that means a few things: the holidays, falling on ice, and boots! Soon the weather will be such that you wish you didn’t have to go out, but you do, so it’s best to stay warm and boots are the answer. Boots, more than other footwear, are a real commitment because you want them to last through the roughest season. Luckily, whatever you budget, whatever your style, there’s a boot for you at BFT. Submitted for your approval: the top 5 boots of winter. (In no particular order.)
5. The Sorel ‘Tivoli’:Often it’s hard to brave the elements and look cute doing it. These extremely warm and practical boots with excellent traction and sense of fashion were designed with that exact dilemma in mind. Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! ($109)

4. The Dolce Vita ‘Bailey’:These authentic desert boots are crafted with the softest suede and inspired by Indiana Jones. Trying to get away from a giant rolling boulder? Trying to fight your way through the Barney’s Warehouse Sale? You’re all set. ($79)

3. The Ciao Bella ‘Carole’: Inspired by the boots of Elizabethan England, these will help you get a husband. Everybody knows it is a truth, universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a girl with cute leather ankle booties. ($89)

2. The BFT for Barefoot Tess ‘Mackenzie’: Flip through the glossy pages of US Weekly and you’ll see every female member of young Hollywood and her less famous hanger-on sister pictured wearing tall, round-toed leather boots with straps and buckles. Oh wait, that’s what these are. Those girls always look fab and so will you! ($109)

1. The Tess by Barefoot Tess ‘Amelia‘: Channel your inner Anastasia in these Russian Royalty inspired faux fur boots. They’re flawless and feminine when paired with everyday-wear and while fleeing from a revolution. ($119)

It’s almost Thanksgiving! We all know what that means, most of us will throw our stuff in a duffel (or a rolly suitcase if you’re the neat type) and get on the most crowed Greyhound, train, or plane that doesn’t serve food and charges you to check a bag EVER. And it will be great because everyone is excited to get home and see their families. Well, some people. And the ones who aren’t will make the crowds and the delays and the Auntie Anne’s pretzel line miserable for the rest of us. I love the holidays!
One very easy way to make travel easier on the most widely traveled holiday of the year is to pack light. You’ll be much less burdened and in a much better mood if your bag isn’t giving you Late Onset Scoliosis. Also stay hydrated. I don’t mean you have to chose between carrying the New Yorker and Us Weekly, thereby picking the New Yorker to feel OK about yourself but lamenting the loss of US Weekly for the duration of the trip. I just mean pack stuff that enables you to mix and match– not too many shoes, one coat, that sort of thing.
Here’s an example of what to pack. You’ll notice there’s a pair of pajamas in the mix. Note: pajama are to be worn in the house, not on the plane. But you know that.
Bon Voyage!

Check out Carolyn’s travel piece for the New York Times here! My favorite quote: “People also have absolutely no qualms about asking me my shoe size. When I’m in a line, people will stare at my feet and then pop the question. If you care, I wear a size 13.”
In addition to being Barefoot Tess‘s very own super stylish brand ambassador, Carolyn Peck is an ESPN basketball analyst and superstar.
