Unless they're your best friend or parents, hosts are hard to handle! Being a host in New York City is a little different - I don't have central heating or central air so it's easy to say to your guest "you are more than welcome to adjust the air or heat as you see fit." I spent the holidays in a very cold house. It was nice to have fires and put on cashmere socks and drink tea all day but I'm with you, I definitely wished I'd slipped some slippers in my suitcase!
