Lately my addiction with the AMC show Mad Men has spread to a yen for all things 60s. From bouffant hair to sunburst clocks, I can’t get enough. But its the women’s (and even mens’!) wardrobes that I am really lusting after. From Betty Draper’s confectionary party dresses to Joan’s va-va-voom sweaters, the women look so ultra-feminine. In searching for pieces, I’m drawn to these riding boots from Corso Como, Marilyn Monroe-esque red lipstick, and these gold heels. Now all I need is a pair of elbow length white gloves….

As it appears to be late September out of nowhere, I have begun actively brainstorming what to be for everyone’s favorite fall holiday – Halloween. Something cute but not too promiscuous, timely but not overly complicated, easily recognizable but clever… a tough assignment! Favorite costumes throughout the years have included Carmen Miranda (try a pair of espadrilles) or His Girl Friday (sheer black tights, 40s pumps – try these, a black suit and netted pillbox hat, and, of course, witty repartee all night). But I am at a loss this year… what to be? I need your help!! Any ideas/favorite past costumes/funny stories??

Normally I eschew the admirably practical strategy of ‘dressing for the weather.’ I just can never seem to bear covering up an outfit with a yellow school-bus poncho or looking down and seeing duck boots on my feet. Two years ago, I assented and bought what I thought was a relatively stylish white puffy coat from Theory. I asked my sister for her take: “you look okay, just kind of the like the Michelin Man. Or maybe more like the gigantic marshmellow man from Ghostbusters.” Hmmm….
But recently I think I may have been converted by the amazing weather wear I’ve been seeing. For starters, I’m obsessed with the new raincoats from Mackage. Sleek, shiny, and they fold up into a tiny bag. I’m almost hoping it will rain… For umbrellas, I’m partial to these clear bubble offerings from Frankford. Very Lost-in-Translation-esque. Last but not least, my go-to winter footwear are these boots from Hunter. Classic wellies with fleece socks inside? Maybe my middle name is practical.

We are in love with these new Dani boots from 80%20 (so named because we wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time). They combine the short punky boot we’ve been seeing everywhere with a hidden wedge heel. It’s magic! We think they’d look dynamite with sweater tights and a long sleeve jersey dress or a pair of cropped trousers.

As uncle sam would say, we want YOU!
So here at BFT, we’re always trying to put ourselves in the mind of our customers to figure out exactly what it is you want. At shoe shows, we think “will she like a heel this high? does she need more flats? can she find a work-appropriate shoe on our site?” Although we like to think of ourselves as pretty good mindreaders, we’re not as good as the real thing… in other words, YOU.
To that end, we need your help! Answer the five questions below to give us a better sense of who you are and what you like, and as a gesture of our thanks you will:
1) automatically receive a 5% off code for everything on the site
2) be entered to win a MEGA BFT SHOPPING SPREE.
With all of the cute new fall shoes coming in, we’re going to have to make sure no one here at the BFT office enters under an alias!! Feel free to respond to us at
tess@barefoottess.com or by posting a response on the blog.
1. What is your height?
What is the upper limit you would wear on heels?
a) below two inches
b) 2-2.5 inches
c) 3-3.5 inches
d) 4 inches and above
2. What are your favorite stores or sites on which to buy shoes (other than us, of course…)?
3. If there is one thing you would change about BFT, what would it be?
4. Any designers you’d like to see us carry in the future?
5. Last question is optional – what is your favorite barefoot tess shoe of all time??

Hello women of BFT. As Tess has been whisked back to collegiate life, I will be helping out with the blog from time to time. I, like our faithful leader Tess, am devoted to the sartorial excellence of tall women, long-footed women, and, in fact, of all women in general.
Today I have the pleasure of announcing the winner of our latest contest – The Favorite Shoe Photo Contest. We unanimously loved her entry, and congratulate this lucky BFT customer on winning a $100 Barefoot Tess shopping spree. As always, all contestants who sent in entries will be rewarded — a code for 5% off the website will be emailed to you.
An exciting new contest will be announced shortly, so keep checking back.
Until next time,
Clementine

“”Your portfolio is lovely, but there are so many qualified candidates and I am afraid we cannot use you for the part today. However, accommodations will be supplied for you, as always, and we would love to have you try out again tomorrow!”
